I've been wanting to upgrade my 5mp point and shoot Sony digital camera for awhile now. I hated how slow it was to focus and got too many blurred images. I needed a fast camera and one that can take better quality pics. I did my research and decided on the Nikon D40 since it's affordable and highly rated. Even beats out the higher models D40x, D60. Online prices are between $450-$500. The lowest price is Newegg at $409 plus $9 shipping. I would have ordered from Newegg right away but I needed the camera the next day. I wanted to see if Circuit City have the D40 in stock and hoping it's a good discount, so I called twice in 2 days, but no one picks up the phone due to low amount of employees in a liquidated store. So I figured I'd just drop by and find out myself. Amazingly, they had the D40 on display, next thing I noticed was the price of $349.99 after a 30% off of list price $499. Then I looked down in the glass and found 3 of them left. The Nikon D60 was on display but had none in stock, it's was also at a good price of $419. I bought one Nikon D40 with tax only $373. Others had complained of Circuit City's dismal discounts, but they recently boosted the discounts by 10 more percent and this is what I'm seeing in the Cameras Department. Few weeks ago, it was 20% off, but now it's 30%. Circuit City hopes to close all stores by end of March, I hope they discount even more by then so I can pick up some lenses.
