Of the many computers I've built, the components inside did not fail. However the power supply has failed twice on two different computers of mine. One of them is an expensive 650Watt BFG purchased for $113.50 a little over 2 years ago. That died for no reason yesterday, it wouldn't turn the PC on, it was working fine the other day. I tested it with a volt meter and only the +5v is good, there was no 12v at all. Good thing I have an extra brand new 500Watt PS to use.
The other power supply that failed was a 500Watt and came with the computer case. This one died earlier this year. I'm thinking the room my computers are in is a little too warm, which could rapidly make a power supply go dead overtime. Room temperature here is around 79-80 degrees F. Sometimes it could be as warm as 83 degrees. Too much equipment running at the same time with the hot sun blaring through is no good for power supplies. Could be a reason for my dead PS. Maybe, or maybe it's just bad luck, or maybe just poor quality parts in the manufacturing.
